CHAN 2022: More about Cameroon’s opponents

Cameroon has been placed in group E of the upcoming African Nations Championship in Algeria next year alongside Congo and Niger.

The intermediate lions of Cameroon picked up a qualification ticket after a 2-1 aggregate win over Equatorial Guinea, thanks to goals from Kaiba Djawal (43′) and Marou Souaibou (46′).

With an arguably talented selection made by Coach of the locals, Saidou Alioum who saw players like Dooh Alain Moukoko who and Malone Che who Captained the team, Junior Kemajou, Souaibou, Djawal, Wassou and many other prolific players take part in the qualifiers.

Cameroon’s Opponents 

Congo
Congo Brazzaville are three time participants at the CHAN tournament and picked up this edition’s qualification ticket on away goal rule(2-1)having won the first leg 2-1 but lost 1-0 at home to deny Central Africa republic a chance.

They will be Cameroon’s Matchday one opponent on January 16, 2022 at the Oran Olympic stadium.

These two teams have met thrice, Picking up a win each against each other and recorded one draw in the 2015 and 2018 African Nations Championship.

Congo has never cross passed the quarter finals and this will be their fourth participation in the CAF organized tournaments for players plying their trade in theirs countries local teams.

*Niger*

The said nation qualified after losing 1-0 in the first leg to Togo before winning at home 3-1 thanks to goals from Boubacar Soumana, Adamou Garba and Moussa Issa

Niger will also be making her fourth appearance come 2022 and have sailed through from the group stage just once, going back home on two occasions in the group stage.

They have been made to face a Niger and Cameroonian side who has been to the quarter finals two times and were fourth placed in the last edition on home soil(2021).

Cameroon will be making her fifth participation in this tournament after finishing fourth during the 2020 CHAN at home.
