Cassius Mailula is confident of retaining his place in the Mamelodi Sundowns FC starting line-up, and has set himself a target of helping the team win as many games as possible especially in the CAF Champions League this season.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form so far this term, with seven goals and three assists in his last 12 appearances for the Masandawa in the PSL, plus three goals in the CAF Champions League, including a brace in the 3-1 win over Cotonsport last Friday.

He potency has helped Downs to the top of the domestic championship and Downs , netting three times in two appearances for Rulani Mokwena’s side.

And following his recent hot streak, Cassius is determined to maintain the momentum for the remainder of the season.

“The next target is score goals: obviously I’m in the team to do that. Thankfully I scored two today,” he said.

“I’m just trying to do my best for the team and to get on the score sheet.

“I think I can do that, I’ve been given the chance this season and I’m moving in the right direction.

The man who scored the winner in Match day One against Al Hilal has contributed 75% of his club’s goals in the Champions League this debut campaign. He states his goals which are far from wanting to be the best scorer.

“I have no pressure as long as I am helping the team to achieve results.”

The Limpopo native who joined Sundowns academy, and a supporter of the club since 2016, Cassius looks like the real deal now.

Sundowns face Al Ahly of Cairo in match day three next week, hoping for another magic from their little number 33.
