CAS rejects FECAFOOT’s appeal over Conceicao’s €1.2M claim

The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has had its appeal against a €1.2 Million fine from FIFA rejected by the Court of Arbitration For Sports (CAS).

FECAFOOT filed a request to have the sanction annulled in an attempt not to avoid the payment but CAS wrote on May 8 to inform their Cameroonian client that they are maintaining the initial decision from the players status commission.

“The Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed the request for provisional measures filed by FECAFOOT who sought an order from CAS to have their £1.2M lifted,” a CAS said in a statement we stumbled on on May 9.

FECAFOOT has reacted to the CAS decision via a release published this Thursday by Blaise Djounang, it’s Secretary General.

FECAFOOT announced its next move in a harshly worded statement issued by its Secretary General, Blaise Djounang this May 11.

“The Cameroon Football Federation announce to the public that in view of its case against ex-Indomitable Lions of Cameroon coach Antonio Conceicao Da Silva Oliveira CAS has opted to maintain the FIFA players statute despite the pertinent points raised in defense. We reserve the right to appeal at the Supreme Federal Court in Switzerland,” FECAFOOT’s statement read.

Conceicao was sacked in February 2022, four months after signing a new contract on the heels of a satisfactory first stint in which he suffered two defeats in 24 matches over a two-year period.

It is not the first time FECAFOOT has been fined huge sums for wrongfully terminating a contract with a coach. Hugo Broos, Clarence Seedorf and Patrick Kluivert among others caused a similar situation.
