The Local Atlas Lions of Morocco may still take part at the 2022 African Nations championship which kicks off in Algeria this Friday

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation on Thursday indicated that they will not make the journey to Constantine, after failing to obtain authorization for the Royal Air Maroc flight, the official carrier of the Moroccan National selections, to transport the team on a direct flight from Rabat to Constantine.

Direct flights from Morocco to neighboring Algeria have been cancelled, but the Moroccan authorities insisted that the Royal Air Maroc be allowed to transport their delegation from the Moroccan capital Rabat, directly to Algerian city of Constantine, where they will be based.

Despite haven confirm on Thursday that the Local Atlas Lions, defending champions, are pulling out of the seventh edition of the CHAN, fresh informations from Casablanca indicates that the Moroccan delegation might leave on Friday from Rabat directly to Constantine, on board a special Royal Air Maroc flight.

Probably a solution must have been found on Thursday, to authorize the Royal Air Maroc to fly directly to Constantine.

Top football personalities are expected in Rabat, Morocco, on Friday for the draw ceremony of the 2023 Club World cup which will take place in Morocco. FIFA president Gianni Infantino, and the president of CAF Dr Patrice Motsepe, are expected in Morocco on Friday morning.

Morocco are defending champions after winning the last edition of the competition in Cameroon last year. The two times winners will be in search of a third consecutive title, and are Group G alongside Sudan, Madagascar and Ghana.

CHAN 2022 kicks off in Algeria on Friday January 13, with host Algeria to take on Libya.
