Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon forward Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene says her attitude after scoring against Haiti was defined by emotions and not discontent as speculation read in the past 24 hours.

Aboudi came off the bench in the 74th minute and scored two late goals to help Cameroon beat Haiti 2-0 in the 2023 Women’s FIFA World Cup playoff semi-final on Saturday in Hamilton, New Zealand.

Strangely, the 33-year-old celebrated both goals by putting up facial expressions which could be interpreted by many as a sign of unhappiness.

Social media has gone agog since those footages were first put online with some suggesting Aboudi is unhappy.

“I was extremely happy,” the forward contradicted before adding; “What is true is there are so many ways to show joy. Honestly, I didn’t know how to celebrate. That’s why I stayed calm but I was happy.”

Aboudi’s 34th and 35th goals for Cameroon earned her Nation a cliffhanger clash against Portugal on Wednesday in the final round of the playoff.

The winner of that game will book a place for the FIFA World Cup tournaments scheduled in New Zealand and Australia later this year.

Aboudi is Cameroon’s all-time lead scorer in Women’s international football and could stir her nation to a third consecutive FIFA World Cup tournament next week.

The CSKA Moscow forward is one of coach Gabriel Zabo’s key player in the quest to reach the global event again.
