Football stakeholders in Cameroons economic capital, Douala, have had a sitting with Engelbert Mbarga, head of the National Football Directorates, on a forthcoming national recruitment campaign titled “Give every talent a chance -Donnons une chance à chaque talent”

This is a program which targets the best of U13 players across the regions, that is footballers born in 2010, for a national competition preparing for the 2025, 2027 U17 Africa cup of nations.

“It’s a program of detection which has the finality to build up the U17 selection of Cameroon, U17 boys, U17 girls for 2027,starting from now. The first step is to sensitize all the promoters, to visit youth training structures, we will go to the neighborhoods and then in Fenasco with boys at school. We start from now with these youth training centers, and we hope to have a lot of teams in the various divisions to begin this program.” Engelbert Mbarga explains.

In Douala, football promoters, Trainers, are called to prepare a batch of 25 best young footballers selected from schools, football academies, youth tournaments, inter quarter competitions e.t.c to compete with other regional bests for a place in the National youth team.

The selection process will start at the divisional level before crossing over to regional representation.

“When the sensitization process is complete and the names of young players given, we will move to the pitch to play games. We will move to division to organize matches so that every division will have a group of 25 girls and boys” Engelbert Mbarga affirms.

He Continues by saying;

“Then we move to the region with the same process. The last step is to bring all the regions together in Yaoundé so we have a combined set of 25 boys and girls, the best in the country. To integrate a federal academy to be set up by the president of Fecafoot at the beginning of the 2024/2025 school year”

The choice of U13 is a strategic one by the National football directorate

“When you want to make a long-term program, you have to start with youths, youth football is the future for national and international football, we think the age of 12-15yrs is the most important period we can contribute to a footballer’s development.” Engelbert Mbarga concludes.

The sensitization process kicked off in Yaoundé . The project will be taken to all the ten regions of Cameroon.

Worthy of note is, this is in line with the FIFA forward program 3.0
