- The swimmer finished 6th with a time of 01:03.42 just above seven place Hassan Hadji from Comoros in the first heat of the men’s 100m freestyle swimming, making him the Cameroon to leave the competition.
- With his elimination, four athletes still stand a chance of bagging home a medal for team Cameroon
Giorgio Armani Nguiche Kamseu Kamogne, representing Cameroon has been eliminated in swimming events from the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.
He finished 6th in the first heat of the men’s 100m freestyle swimming, just above Hassan Hadji from Comoros. Despite not advancing to the next rounds, Kamogne’s participation was a significant achievement for a nation not accustomed to having swimmers at the Olympics.
Facing tough competition, including Papua New Guinea’s Josh Tarere, who won his heat with a personal best time of 53.85 seconds, Kamogne’s performance fell short. In a post-participation statement, he expressed that better preparation could have yielded improved results, but limited resources hindered his training.
Kamogne’s determination and pride in representing Cameroon inspire fans and supporters. He is the second Athlete to leave the competition after Sarah Hanffou in table tennis
Although he was eliminated, the country still has hope for medals with athletes like Mabelo Nguelo in swimming, Mbella Soppi Anita Richelle in Judo, and sprinters Emmanuel Eseme and Linda Angounou, who will compete by August 2.
