Cameroon: Sports minister invites Eto’o for another crucial Indomitable Lions-related meeting

  • Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Cameroon’s minister of Sports and Physical education has invited Samuel Eto’o Fils for a meeting to intensify preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches against Cape Verde Island and Angola 
  • Marc Brys who has confirmed he has an official contract to be coach of the Indomitable Lions Cameroon is expected to be part of the meeting 
  • Brys will be assisted by Joachim Mununga and Giannis Xilouris who form part of trio to earn €40 000 per month 

Cameroon’s minister of Sports and Physical education, professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi has invited president Samuel Eto’o Fils of the country’s football Federation to be part of a preparations meeting for the Indomitable Lions upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifier matches against Cape Verde Island and Angola in June.

Reports emerging from Jeune Afrique have it that Eto’o who has repeatedly denied government’s move of settling for Marc Brys as replacement for Rigobert Song has been served an invitation for the meeting on Tuesday, May 7, though he missed the previous appointment related to the Belgian tactician.

Tuesday’s meeting at the conference room of the ministry of Sports will be presided over by the minister and all units of his ministry and FECAFOOT related to the Indomitable Lions are expected to be part of the session.

Despite president Eto’o’s refusal to sign Marc Brys’ contract even upon government’s instruction, coach Brys returned to Cameroon on Friday evening. This after his successful two-week tour to meet players of the national team and share his vision.

He is expected to hold a number of working sessions with staff to take their proposals to the enlarged meeting which will also mark his first physical contact with Eto’o.

Tuesday’s meeting is expected to serve as a platform to plan for the crucial fixtures against Cape Verde Island in Yaoundé on June 3 and Angola in Luanda a week after.

Cameroon currently occupies top spot in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification group ahead of the likes of Libya, Mauritius Island, Eswatini, having picked up four points from two games

The former Al Raed coach is on his first opportunity in a national team football and has been tasked to qualify Cameroon for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2025 AFCON, plus have an honorable run in the competition in Morocco.

In a related development, the former KV Mechelen coach has opted to live in Cameroon throughout his two-and-half years contract as lead trainer of the Indomitable Lions.
