Cameroon that endured a turmoilous build up to the game trying to sort the ongoing ‘crisis’ about who to compose the technical crew around Marc Brys once again defied expectations, and added to a list of events in which they have performed better in moments of crisis.

Ngadeu returning after over two years out of the national team scored a bullet header, before providing for Nouhou Tolo’s first international goal while Aboubakar scored a brace – including a penalty and Andre Onana saved a penalty as Mark Brys marked his debut in the Cameroon dugout with a commanding victory.

Despite the controversy that characterized preparations for the game, Cameroon started better and showed more zeal and were quickly rewarded.

Ngadeu put the hosts ahead with a thumping header after 12 minutes, before an Aboubakar brace including a 44th minute penalty following a foul on Nicolas Moumi Ngamaleu was sandwiched by a Cape Verdean goal from Monteiro Jamiro.

The 3-1 advantage for the hosts was preserved till the pause as the likes of Carlos Baleba Noom Quomah and Jackson Tchatchoua displayed their class in the first 45 minutes in the Indomitable Lions circle.

Nouhou Tolo’s header eight minutes upon resumption, off an assist from Ngadeu was the main highlight of the second segment alongside a late penalty save from Andre Onana.

Though coach Bubista’s Cape Verde Island team looked far from the convincing team that reached the quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) earlier this year, the improved Indomitable Lions ensured they pick up their first win under coach Marc Brys, and return to the top of Pool D of qualifiers with seven points like Libya.

The brace takes Aboubakar’s tally in the national team to 43 and makes him the second all time top scorer in the history of the nation that has produced some unstoppable strikers over the years.

Aboubakar and his colleagues will jet off to Angola on  Sunday ahead of the clash with the Palancas Negras who also had a great run at the AFCON earlier this year in Côte D’Ivoire and beat Eswatini 1-0 at home in match day three.

A win for Cameroon on the road against Angola will ensure they finish this FIFA window at the top of their group irrespective of the result obtained by Libya.

Cameroon is hoping to make it to a ninth FIFA World Cup tournament while the likes of Angola and Libya chase a return after a long while.
