CAFWCL: Mazembe, Hurricanes Ladies open UNIFFAC playoffs on Friday

DR Congo’s Tout puissant Mazembe ladies clash against Hurricane Ladies in the Union of Central African Football Federations (UNIFFAC) CAF women’s Champions League qualifiers on Friday, at 1500 CAT.

The game will be a curtain raiser for the three-team zonal competition, billed for September 8-14 in the land of 2008 and 2012 Women’s AFCON champions, Equatorial Guinea.

TP Mazembe represented the region last year, but failed to impress in group A in the competition finals, consisting of: Simba Queens of Tanzania, Green Buffaloes, Determine Girls of Liberia and eventual finalist AS FAR FC of Morocco.

A lot has happened within that period and now.

TP Mazembe ladies journeyed past competitors in DR Congo to grab another Women’s football championship, for a second year running.

Mazembe and their Moroccan coach, Lamia Boumedhi enters this year’s competition as a trunk card, ready to grab the region’s lone ticket to the grande competition.

Vastly considered minnows, Hurricane Ladies are hoping to stun the two other teams, so as to qualify for a maiden CAF women’s champions league tourney.

With an elite status of tournament hosts, the Equatorial Guinea women’s championship winners are intend on making a real statement.

Hurricane Ladies versus TP Mazembe Ladies will be played out at the state of the art Estadio National de Malabo.

The teams will compete in a unique three-team championship system. Victorious clubs take home maximum points, one point in case of parity, and no points in case of a defeat.

A group topper finishes at the top of the table and goes on to qualify for the final phase of the Women’s Champions League.
