Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, has beaten cotonsport 3-1 in Garoua, in a day two game in Group B of the CAF Champions League. The game was played at the Roumde Adjia stadium in Garoua on Friday evening.

Mailula Cassius netted twice in the first half, with Thapelo James Morena also on target for the Banyana Ba Style, despite Patient Wassou pulling one back for Cotonsport.

Midfielder Mailula Cassius, who had scored Sundowns lone goal in their win over Sudan’s Al-Hilal Club last week, opened scores at the Roumde Adjia stadium after 10 minutes of play.

South International Thapelo James Morena, increased tally for the visitors one minute later, when he turned in with his back heel to finish a swift counter attack for Mamelodi Sundowns.

Cotonsport tried to up their game, and were denied by the woodworks just a quarter of an hour into the game.

Sundowns captain Teboho Mokoena, unleashed a long range effort at the 24th minute, but goalkeeper Gabin Allambatnan did well to tip it over the bar.

Cotonsport pulled one goal back half an hour into the game (30), when forward Patient Wassou finished pass goalkeeper Ronwen William, from a well laid off pass from Kaiba Djawal, shortly because coach Agbor Ernest subbed off Brandon Eno and brought in Marie Sylvestre Materne Mekong.

Despite late pressure from the home side, it was Sundowns who increased tally through 21-year-old Cassius Mailula, who skipped pass Goni Ali, before slotting the ball beyond Allambatna.

The Brazilians took a two goals lead for the pause, as they had total dominance of the first half with a 70 percent ball possession.

Cotonsport made another substitution early in the second half, with Ibrahim Abba coming for Houzaifi Youssoufa, while Abdouraman Daman Bouba, was brought in to replace Moustapha Djidjiwa.

Defender Che Malone Fondoh was booked for an offence on a Sundowns player, shortly before goalkeeper Williams made a crucial save from point-blank, to thwart away a ball that deflected off Grant Kekana.

Sundowns had a chance to increase tally at the 74th minute, when Mudau connected well to a Thapelo’s cut back, but unfortunately his efforts hit the upright.

More late subs for Cotonsport, saw Nigerian forward Emmanuel Igboeri Ebubechoukwu and Philip Arthur Banen, coming in to replace Materne Mekong and Ramses Donfack respectively.

Coach Rhulani Mokwena’s side nullified all offensive moves from cotonsport, and move away with all three points from Garoua.

Sundowns are now outright leaders of Group B with six points from two games, though have played a game more than any other group opponent.

The 2016 CAF Champions League winners, are now on a 15-match winning streak.

Mailula Cassius is also outright top scorer in this year’s CAF Champions League group stage, with three goals in two games.
