The Confederation of African football, CAF, has dismissed Algeria’s claims of damages following Morocco’s refusal participate during the just ended CHAN and so Morocco has been spared.

The emphasizes by the board on dismissing the Algerian Football Federation’s claim for damages means Algeria too has been spared.

According to CAF’s disciplinary committee after much deliberations, Morocco’s failure to participate in the tournament meant for local players, were due to reasons beyond their control.

“Following deliberations and examination of evidence including a number of correspondences between Algeria, Morocco and CAF, the Disciplinary Committee concluded that Morocco was unable to travel and participate in the CHAN due to circumstances totally beyond their control, and as such no sanction of whatsoever nature is imposed on the Royal Moroccan Federation” the committee mentioned.

” In the aftermath of the statement made at the opening ceremony of the CHAN on 13 January 2023, CAF had referred the matter to the Disciplinary Board for further investigation.

However the disciplinary committee did not fail to reiterate that;

“A formal reminder will be served to all National Associations including FAF, to be aware that the provisions of indirect liability and strict liability may in future be applied as a result of any political or other statements issued at a formal CAF competition or event made by a third party” Kick442.com learnt.

Note that, Morocco who were holders, withdrew on the eve of the competition after their permission to fly into Algeria from Rabat using the country’s national flight, Royal Air Maroc, was rejected.

Morocco’s reason for this demand was due to the fact that, the two North African countries have differences, since cutting diplomatic ties in August 2021, including restricting direct flights between them.

Fortunately, Morocco has escaped been banned from participating in the next edition of the competition for failing to defend their title as the law stipulates.
