CAF Confederation Cup: Fiston Mayele’s First goal earns personal accolade

Fiston Kalala Mayele’s first goal in Yanga SC’s 2-0 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final win against Rivers United FC of Nigeria has been named the competition’s goal of the week by the organizers.

The strike was shortlisted among four others for the public to vote the best while a panel of technicians made up of former footballers deliberate to decide the winner.

On Thursday, April 27 CAF announced that the Yanga SC import from the DR Congo is the winner of the latest edition of the contest.

Mayele’s first time finish off an assist from Yanga SC skipper Bakari Mwamnyeto earned admiration of many from first sight and has gone as far as convincing the CAF team of experts.

Mayele, who scored the second goal of game now counts 50 goals in just two seasons at Yanga SC.

The Congolese finisher could play a telling role for Yanga SC as they welcome Rivers United FC in the second-leg of the quarter-final this Sunday at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar Es Salaam.
