Egyptian forward Mahmoud Kahraba scored a hat-trick as Ahly SC crushed Cotonsport of Garoua 4-0 at home in match day five of the 2022/23 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League on Friday.

The Garoua side were simply second best in the game Kahraba and South African forward Percy Tau found the back of the network to earn massive three points that keeps the Red Devils hopes of reaching the Quarter-final alive.

Coton entered the game hoping to end their run of ten defeats in the group stage of the competition, dating from 2017 while Ahly was chasing their second win to add to four points obtained before kick off.

Coach Marcel Koller’s visiting team dominated the early moments but were patient as Che Malone and Goni Ali at the heart of the Coton defence organized to stop most of the Al Ahly incursions.

Kahraba finally scored for the ten-time champions in the 23rd minutes after a neat one-two with Magdy Afsha presented a good ball to him unmarked inside the box.

Referee Peter Waweru stopped the game for a water break just after the goal as both sides quickly refreshed and received more tactical guides.

Kahraba doubled his tally just before the half hour mark after he received a square ball from Tau. The goal was the tenth Gadin Allatbatnan conceded in this season’s CAF Champions League.

Some Coton fans left the stadium after the second goal as they couldn’t help the sight of their darling club facing a long afternoon and a fifth defeat in five group stage games.

At the break, Ahly was two goals to the good as it was in the reversed fixture.

The Tau and Kahraba combination paid off again five minutes upon resumption as the former fed the latter who completed his fastest hat-trick in the competition.

Tau completed the rout in the 53rd minute, beating Gadin with a near post finish to make it 4-0.

Coton made a string of changes, introduced only their only scorer in this season’s competition Wassou Goue but the forward who was just returning from illness didn’t provide much.

Mohamed El Shanaway finished his quiet afternoon with yet another Champions League clean sheet as the visitors kept the four goals advantage till the end.

The win takes Ahly’s points tally to seven ahead of Sundowns versus Al Hilal SC this Saturday which will determine the Egyptian side’s chances going into the last round of matches.
