  • Brahim Diaz scored another brace in the 4-0 win against Granada to take his season tally to 12 following the match day 35 win in the Spanish La Liga championship
  • Granada who were relegated from the La Liga following Mallorca’s result early in the day looked second best to Real Madrid
  • Martin Hongla climbed off the bench for his 12th appearance since joining the club in the January window from Hellas Verona

Brahim Diaz scored a brace to inspire Real Madrid punish Granada 4-0 on Saturday evening at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes, in the afternoon Martin Hongla’s club was relegated from La Liga.

Arda Guler and Fran García also had their names on the score sheet but Moroccan forward Diaz who did the magic.

His excellent second-half brace, with a moment of individual quality before rounding off an excellent team move earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

Martin Hongla played the final 37 minutes of the game, but couldn’t impact the results as Real who made ten changes from their starting XI in the UEFA Champions League semi final win against Bayern still outclassed Granada.

Despite assured and dominant performances from Eduardo Camavinga and Luka Modric in midfield, Diaz caused problems all afternoon for the hosts.

His driving runs at the heart of the Granada defence saw him play a role in all four goals and brought two yellow cards for Granada.

A superb solo goal as he took the ball on the half turn before once again running at the Granada back line and firing home before he finished off an excellent passing move from the visitors exemplified his high-quality performance.

Diaz is one of those that have snatched the opportunity and his two excellent goals that topped off a superb performance will have done him no harm in his efforts to start the final as Madrid look for their 15th Champions League title. He took his tally in the La Liga to eight goals and four assists in four matches.

Granada, 19th in the La Liga, were relegated before kick-off after Mallorca beat Las Palmas to ensure the Andalusians could not escape the drop zone.

26-year-old Hongla made 12 La Liga appearances since joining the club in January this year but couldn’t help Granada avoid relegation.

His superb form through the difficult run for his club earned him a recall to the Cameroon national team via coach Marc Brys.
