Bayelsa Queens retains State FA Cup

Bayelsa Queens Football Club has issued a warning to other opponents in the Federation Cup at the national level after dispatching Golden Sun Sports club five -nil in the State FA Cup final at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Ovom, Yenagoa on Saturday 30 March, 2024.

The Prosperity Girls opened the flood gate of goals in the 26 minutes when Mercy Itimi scored with a simple tap-in from a cross from Mercy Omokwo.

Anjor Mary scored the second goal in the 27th minute while Mercy Omokwo got the 3rd in the 38 minutes through a penalty after she was brought down in the 18 yard box to end the first half three-nil.

On resumption Bayelsa Queens piled more pressure on their opponent and it was Mercy Omokwo that scored the fourth goal in the 55th minute after series of misses while in the 75th minutes Martha Peter scored the 5th goal.

Golden Suns Sports club fought hard to get a goal, but the defense line of the Prosperity Girls stood firm without letting the Sun Girls penetrating.

Bayelsa Queens Football Club has won the State FA Cup successively for the past eight years.

Technical Adviser Bayelsa Queens, Domo Okara after the game said they are out to make a statement in the FA Cup even in Nigeria.

“This season we want to do the double by winning the Super Six and the Federation Cup, that is what we have set our minds to do and by God’s Grace it will be achieved”, Okara added.

Inemotimi Koffi, Coach Golden Sun Sports club said his girls tired, but their ability was not up to that of Bayelsa Queens.

“Bayelsa Queens are the defending Champions of the Federation Cup both in the State and Country, so you don’t expect us to overcome them knowing the kind of quality they have in their team”, Koffi said.

“I give kudos to my girls because they played to instructions and that reflected on the score line. Last year, we lost six-nil to Bayelsa Queens, but this year it was five-nil. So in all my girls tried”, Koffi added.
