Basketball: Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu nominated in WNBA

23-year-old Cameroonian basketballer Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu has been drafted, in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), the American professional women’s basketball league by Seattle Storm club.

The information was officially made public by the US embassy in Cameroon ,on April 12 ,while congratulating her on their tweeter handle stating that, the WNBA is made up of three most accomplished and competent women in the world basketball.

This announcement comes as Cameroon prepares its participation in the Women’s Afrobasket slated from July 28 to August 6,2023.

She was the 21st choice of the Seattle Storm and becomes the second Cameroonian, after Alvine Mendeng in 2008, to achieve this.

Dulcy Fankam was the most dominant player in the league last season with her university, South Florida, and finished the 2022-23 campaign with an average of 16.5 points per game, the second of the team and the third of the conference, with 12.3 rebounds per exit.

With a total of 418 rebounds per game, she was the best “rebound” of the season in the lower division.

Dulcy Fankom born in Nkongsamba, Littoral region was one of the best basketball players in the Cameroonian championship with the BEAC club. In 2018, she flew to the United States where she joined the University of South Florida team under coach Jose Fernandez.
