Players and officials of Bang Bullets FC of Nkambe abandoned their second-leg semi-final final clash against Options Sports Academy of Bamenda last Sunday at the GS Nibung stadium following a late penalty decision from the match officials.
Fans of the Nkambe club invaded the pitch and attempted to lynch the match officials after he pointed to the spot for an Options Sports Academy penalty in the 90 +12 minutes of the game. Referee Muh Divine had initially signaled seven minutes of additional time with Bang Bullets FC still protecting a 1-0 aggregate advantage from the first-leg.
According our reporter at the game, penalty call was one of the many strange decisions from the match officials which eventually pushed the fans into the pitch to vent their anger especially on Mr Muh.
Though the pitch was eventually cleared players and officials of Bang Bullets FC refused to continue the game, thus leaving officials with the option of ending it without playing the penalty.
The premature finish of the game leaves the Homologation and Disciplinary committee(HDC) of the Northwest Regional League of FECAFOOT with the obligation of deciding the way forward in the contest.
A decision to determine which club will face Rainbow FC will be made within this week by the said body.
Everything being equal, the match officials risk being sanctioned if their decision is qualified illogical, while Bang Bullets could lose the game by forfeiture with a 0-3 score and be relegated two divisions lower.
The final will be between Rainbow FC, 3-2 conquerors of Rockland FC on post-match penalties after a goalless draw from the two-leg matches and the office winners.
Whoever the HDC decides as winner will battle with regular winners Rainbow FC for the pride of champions and rights to represent the Northwest region at the ten-club national interpools next month.
