Ballon D’or 2023: Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala named among the World’s best

Barcelona and Nigeria’s forward , Asisat Oshoala, has been nominated for the best female player at the 2023 Ballon d’Or Awards.

Listed among the World’s best , faces competition from five team-mates in Spain notably World Cup winner Salma Paralluelo and recently crowned UEFA Best female player Aitana Bonmati , England stars Mary Earps , Georgia stanway , and PFA Player’s player of the year winner Rachel Daly.

Teenager and Colombia’s starlet Linda Caicedo , Australia’s captain Sam Kerr , Japan duo Yui Hasegawa , Hinata Miyazawa , German’s Alexander Popp , Mancity’s forward Khadijah Shaw , USA’s Sophia Smith , Sweden’s Amanda Ilestedt and France’s captain Wendie Renard are some of big names that made the cut.

The Superfalcons star , won domestic double with Barcelona last season , clinching the La Liga and UEFA Women’s Champions league.

At the FIFA Women’s World Cup , Oshoala became the first African to score at three different global tournaments , netting in Nigeria’s shocking 3-2 victory against the hosts Australia.

The five time African Footballer of the year , makes the nomination for the second consecutive time.

The milestone leaves Nigeria as the first African country to have men and Women’s Ballon d’Or nominee in the same year.
