Authentic Ladies FC of Douala have sacked coach Fagnia Fagnia Fernandez after just five months in charge, the club has confirmed to the kick442.com team after the News first filtered through Guy Roger Obama of Magic FM.

The club recorded a fourth Guinness Super League defeat last weekend in Yaounde as FC Ebolowa outplayed them by 2-0 in an advanced match day 13 fixture.

The latest league loss and some truly abysmal form on the road plus other aspects we elect not to mention have led to the decision.

Assistant coach Moussono and boys team coach Felix Fotso will take over for Authentic’s next fixture against Eclair on Wednesday, a game they need to use to get into the top four positions on on the table.

Fagnia took the helm in October 2022, after the departure of the previous technical staff. He was tasked to achieve a top two finish in the championship, but that looks highly unlikely before the decision to end his stay.

Authentic have looked off this season, starting with a shaky preseason full of sluggishness and basic errors. Things never improved– the paper-thin squad suffered apathetic losses to Fortuna, Éclair, and FC Ebolowa.

The presence of Marie Claire Kibinde, Tim Shalom Makoma, Fukuin Odette Chahkes and co temporarily bolstered form against weaker opponents, but a string of games against top sides showed it wasn’t enough.

Authentic often look unfit and unmotivated compared to their opponents. Fagnia typically set up the side in a pressy mid-block, but the press seemingly no longer had the energy to carry out its duties. It was impossible to tell whether the side was even trying to keep possession or not, because they couldn’t do it.

It was similarly difficult to tell whether there was a plan to progress the ball. From interviews throughout this season, we know that Fagnia had a heavy hand in team building–while the vibes may have been good, he built a squad with almost more individual brilliance than collective play.

Authentic are currently ranked sixth in the championship with 20 points from a possible 36. Coach Fagnia won six, lost four and played two draws in 12 games as coach of the club.
