At General Assembly, NW FECAFOOT recounts remarkable progress sets way forward

The North West regional league will take another turn for the 2022-2023 football season, following new innovations and strategies put in place by the football governing body.

During the Ordinary General Assembly of the institution held Friday 24, 2022 at the Bamenda I Council Hall, the Secretary General Ndi Tsembom Elvis echoed some remarkable achievements at various levels and how the forthcoming season will look like.

The 2021/2022 football season was played with 21 teams after PWD Reserves were declared General forfeiture following two absences on match days. Hilltops Strikers qualified for the National Interpools but were unable to pick up an Elite Two ticket.

Meanwhile in Youth Football, Options Sports emerged as champions of the the U-17 National championship, bringing smiles to the region.

Female football and Futsal were all played in the region though the regional champions didn’t impress at the national level. In female football, Ita Mbong FC of Nkambe who emerged regional champions represented the region at the national playoffs but failed to go pass the first obstacle.

Three referees from the region (Chia Allen, Ngalah Alain and Asongwed Didier) were promoted to the National level. Ntangti Innocentia was elected Best referee of the Guinness Super League and Chin Valentine Best assistant referee. 11 Match commissioners have also been promoted from the region to the Elite Championship.

Mbigha Njah Felix in his opening statement, called for collective efforts to support teams in the regional championship and to plan positively for the betterment of the league as the goal remains to pick up Elite two ticket this season.

For the NWRL, three teams will be relegated after play downs have been done, to give room to teams which shall be promoted from the Divisional leagues. Disciplinary sanctions shall be strictly respected. By this note, 2000frs will be paid for yellow cards and 4000frs for red cards. Something which has not existed in the league for over two seasons.

To maintain some order and respecting the statues of FECAFOOT, teams which shall be 15 minutes late for a game looses the game by forfeiture. Player’s outfits shall also be strictly monitored.

Players plying their trade in this championship will have to double their efforts as Man of the match award shall be given on every match days particularly in top matches. The first two teams per pool qualifies for the Mini Pools which will have Pool A against pool C and pool D against pool B.

During this year’s NWRL, two stadia have been provided by The University of Bambili, GS Nibung, St Peters field Bambui, PS Bujong, CS Futru and others shall be used fir games.
