Ankle Injury puts Mbeumo out of AFCON 2023

Bryan Mbeumo will miss three months of action following an ankle operation carried out this Friday.

Thomas Frank, Head coach of Brentford confirmed this news , informing the media, the 24-years-old will not be part of the AFCON.

“[Mbeumo] will not participate in the Africa Cup of Nations,” head coach Thomas Frank confirmed.

He further adds,

“Bryan is a positive guy. It’s tough to take, but he will come back stronger. He has a very good mindset.”

Mbeumo limped off the pitch on December 6, after scoring the lone goal for the Bees in their 1-2 loss to Brighton.

Before his injury, Mbeumo was in superb form for Brentford, scoring seven goals and setting up three more in 15 starts.

The France-born forward rose through the ranks at Troyes and moved to Brentford in 2019. He switched allegiance to Cameroon, his ancestral home, and debuted in 2022,playing the FIFA world cup in Qatar.

He has scored three times in 14 games for the Indomitable Lions, including the opener in the 3-0 win over Burundi that sealed their AFCON spot.
