Andre Onana, Rigobert Song nominated for Best Goalkeeper/coach of the year

Inter Milan and Former goalkeeper of the Cameroon National team, Andre Onana, has been nominated for the best goalkeeper award of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.(IFFHS)

Equally, head Coach of the Cameroon National team, Rigobert Song Bahanag has been shortlisted for the same award under the category of Best Coach.

This comes after he makes stunning records at the just ended FIFA World Cup in Qatar despite Cameroon leaving at the group stage with 4 points.

But then, the 46-year-old gaffer guided Cameroon to become the ever very first African team to beat Brazil at the World Cup as well as guiding the team to their first World Cup victory since 2002, becoming the first to beat Brazil as a player and as a coach.

Andre Onana on the other hand, one among 25 nominees for the award alongside fellow African brothers, Edouard Mendy of Senegal and Chelsea, Aymen Dahmen of Tunisia as well as Yassine Bounou who plays for Sevilla and the Moroccan National team.

Few days after Onana took the decision to end his International career with Cameroon provoked by a suspension during day two of the just ended FIFA World Cup game against Serbia, the Inter Milan Goalkeeper is recognized by IFFHS as one of the world best.

This is Andre Onana’s first nomination by IFFHS but it should be noted that, he has been nominated under different award platforms for best goalkeeping.

The last of which was in 2019, when the former Indomitable Lion while at Ajax, was shortlisted for the inaugural France Football Yachine Trophy, a distinction for the best goalkeeper in the World.

Andre Onana is recognized under this award of nominees as keeper from Cameroon and Inter Milan, a club he Joined in July, 2022.
