Thursday, April 19 – Cameroon’s minister of Sports of Physical Education Professor Narcisse Mouelle Kombi has made the first move in an attempt to secure the return of Andre Onana Onana to the Indomitable Lions den.

kick442.com has stumbled on a confidential letter sent to Inter Milan by the sports authority, asking the club president Corso Vitorie Emmanuele, to cause Onana to make a U-turn on his decision to quit international football.

The 27-year-old ended his time in the Cameroon last November after a braul sparked between him and the staff of the national team after one game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Onana featured in Cameroon’s 0-1 defeat against Switzerland but missed the rest of the tournament after he was suspended from the team’s activities due to what was qualified indiscipline and through a letter signed by the interim Secretary General of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT).

The keeper followed the FECAFOOT decision with a decision of his own announcing retirement from the national team.

Now, minister Kombi wants his decision to be overturned.

“I have the honor to let you know that the state of Cameroon, represented in international competitions by the indomitable Lions, took note of Andre Onana’s retirement communique. This keeper of your prestigious and emblematic institution, put an end to his international career after the conclusion of the FIFA world cup.

“This, courtesy of a misunderstanding with the technical staff after the Indomitable Lions first game. The latter’s reaffirmation of patriotism was noted in his communique.

“We ask of you to permit this goalkeeper who has up till this point been a pillar to our national team, to reexamine his decision, and continue to represent his country of origin, so as to make the younger generation dream. We count on your consideration and diligence,’ a good portion of the release read.

This comes a month after the current Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song told the media that the doors of the national team were still open for Onana.

The Nkol-Ngok native made his debut for Cameroon in September 2016 and has gone on to win 34 caps through two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments.

Onana, One-time Ajax Amsterdam and Barcelona B goalkeeper has been on fine-form for Inter Milan this season.

The keeper exploits between the sticks has helped the club reach the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League as one of the most-performant players for the 2010 treble winners this season.

Cameroon hasn’t been assuring in the goalkeeping aspect of the game thus making many to clamor for his comeback.
