Stade Renard have returned to winning ways this Sunday as Ako Alexis Asoh dispatched a late penalty to help the MTN Elite One vice champions beat AS Fortuna by 1-0 in Yaoundé.
Coach Mesumbe Ivo of Stade Renard got just the reaction he wanted from his players after conceding late to lose against Colombe of Dja last time out.
The match day six victory was Stade Renard’s second of the season and lifted them up to the right spot on the list with just eight points from a possible 18.
The first half of the contest the game was an even affair as both sides struggled to find out each other with interesting interpositional ball movements.
The few chances between the sides in the first 45 minutes were wasted but the pace of the game improved with the two clubs pushing to get the curtain-raiser just after the restart.
Renard finally had the breakthrough and only goal from Ako who converted from the spot to take his season tally to three goals in as many games and ensure they leave Yaoundé with all three points.
The win for Stade Renard is a major boast while for Fortuna it’s a fourth defeat in the past five games and puts them back in the relegation zone with just six points so far.
From the vice champions Fortuna will face last season’s champions Victoria United FC in their next outing while Stade Renard will return to Melong to host Fauve Azur Elite fresh from beating Victoria United FC.
