AFCON 2023 upset continues as tournament reaches last eight

The thrills and upsets of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) continued as the tournament reached the quarter-final stage.

The last straw that broke the camel’s back was South Africa’s 2-0 win over 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finalists, Morocco in the last Round of 16 games on Tuesday.

Mali also progressed with a 2-1 victory against fellow West African side, Burkina Faso.

A day earlier, host, Cote D’Ivoire stunned holders, Senegal on penalties while Cape Verde had to dig deep to earn a 1-0 win over Mauritania.

Record winners, Egypt bowed to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as Nigeria eliminated Cameroon.

One of the most impressive teams of the group stage, Equatorial Guinea bid the competition goodbye thanks to Guinea’s victory.

Angola will be making an appearance in the quarter-final to face the Super Eagles after a resounding 3-0 win over Namibia.

Quarter Final games will commence on Friday with Nigeria facing Angola at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan.
