The head coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, Jose peseiro is expecting a hard match up between his team and Angola in the quarter final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Friday.

Three-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winners Nigeria beat Cameroon 2-0 in the last-16 to cruise through to the quarter-finals – one better than they managed in the previous edition.

Angola on the other hand recorded a 3-0 victory against Namibia to book a place in the last eight.

The Super Eagles crashed out to Tunisia in the Round of 16 in Cameroon 2021 AFCON under coach Austin Eguavoen and have scored five goals with one conceded so far in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Poruguese coach is happy to be facing Portuguese speaking Angola while looking forward to a tough encounter.

“It is a pleasure playing against a brother or sister nation,” Peseiro told journalists during his pre match press conference on Thursday.

“Angola and Mozambique are sister nations to Portugal. Some of  my family members have worked and interacted with Angolans and I have coached some of their players.

“They have a player that have played with my team at Sporting Lisbon. No matter that, we respect the team and are confident in ourselves. We know the game will be hard and explosive but we are up to the task.” He posited.

The Super Eagles have won three of their four games at the competition conceding just a goal so far.

The game the team had not been able to win was a 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea in the opening Group A game. The Nzalang Nacional which topped Group A had since being eliminated from the tournament.
