Cameroon defender Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui was among the scorers as Beijing Guoan fought back from two goals down to earn a dramatic 3-3 draw against Hong Kong side Tai Po in their AFC Champions League 2 Round 3 clash this Thursday morning.
The hosts stunned the visitors early on, with Michel Renner opening the scoring in the 17th minute before J. Temelkovski converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 twelve minutes later.
Beijing Guoan halved the deficit through Bai Yang, who finished off Zhang Xizhe’s clever pass in the 36th minute to give the Chinese side hope heading into halftime.
Ngadeu, one of Cameroon’s most consistent internationals, rose highest to head home the equaliser eight minutes after the restart — his first goal in the competition this season — to pull Guoan level at 2-2.
Filipe Abreu appeared to have completed the comeback when he put the visitors 3-2 ahead in the 83rd minute from Dawhan’s assist, but Tai Po refused to fold. In added time, Renner struck again, this time from a Temelkovski delivery, to rescue a share of the spoils for the Hong Kong champions.
The result means both sides remain in the chase for qualification after a pulsating six-goal thriller that showcased the unpredictable nature of this year’s competition.
Ngadeu, who remains a key figure for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, once again demonstrated his leadership and aerial prowess — traits that have defined his career for both club and country.
Beijing Guoan will now shift focus to their next group fixture as they seek to turn spirited performances into victories, while Tai Po can take confidence from a display that underlined their attacking potential against one of Asia’s traditional heavyweights.
