2022 FIFA WC: Tchouameni among several French players affected by sickness bug outbreak

France has been hit with injury crisis less than 24 hours ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup final against Argentina.

Aurélien Tchouameni and Theo Hernandez missed out on Le Blues training session on Friday due to a hip and knee injuries respectively.

The 22-year-old Aurélien who plays for Real Madrid and 25-year-old Hernandez on the books of Inter Milan, may not feature in the country’s final game of the 2022, as they join a list of injured French players whose availability is yet to be confirmed.

They join Adrien Rabiot and Dayot Upamecano who missed the semi-final victory over Morocco with Camel Flu.

Early today, it was reported that both starting centre-backs Raphaël Varane and Ibrahima Konaté have also missed the training session due to ill health with symptoms of the virus spreading in the camp.

These two played an important role to get France to this stage of the tournament for the second consecutive time.

Being one of the regular starters since the day one of France’s game, Aurélien has scored one goal so far and that was against England where he opened score in a 2-1 win in their favour.

Hernandez on the other hand, started off on the bench in match day one but was brought in to replace Lucas who picked up a knee injury, and that’s how he secured his spot as starter at the left back compartment.

He equally scored the opening goal against Morocco less than six minutes into the semi final encounter that assisted in a 2-0 win and gave an assist in their 4-1 win game against Australia for his side to reach back-to-back finals.

France’s list of injured players keeps increasing and this becomes a major worry for Coach Didier Deschamps who is already loosing key players ahead of the final clash set to be staged at the 80,000 capacity Lusail stadium.

The sick players are in isolation and under observation especially those with the flu and cold. Didier Deschamps will have to make use of his other options if the recovery process delays.

Just like Karim Benzema, Ngolo Kanté and Paul Pogba were ruled out before the tournament due to injuries, the defending champions keep losing more of their fine players as days to the grand finale draw near.

Title holders France and Argentina will in action on Sunday, December 18 to battle on who grab home the prestigious trophy and become World Champions.
