Littoral representative, Pouma FC of Douala have emerged third place winners of the 2023 National Interpools following a 1-0 win over Volcan de Noun from the west region.
Doka Bechem Tabe scored the lone goal deep into added time to grab the consolatory title, whose importance is yet to be known.
Pouma made Volcan know they were ready for the third place benefit, taking full control of the early minutes of the game with two missed attempts at goal.
The west regional side woke up from slumber after the threats from the opponent, mounting pressure in Pouma’s half of the pitch but it yielded no fruits.
Goalkeeper Boubakary Mohaman made two crucial saves in less than three minutes, to deny Moustapha Lamaje and Arouna Njikam’s goal opportunity.
The first segment ended in a barren all tie as both sides failed to convert their chances to take the lead.
Upon resumption, coach Jean Paul Lombeng of Volcan carried out his first substitution(double) bringing out Arouna and Junior Arnaud for pacy forward El Kaduri Njimoluh and Adirou Njifon.
Samuel Nkono Kwedi, Goalkeeper for Volcan, did excellent to stop Pouma’s attempts in the last five minutes to the end of regular time.
He managed to stop Junior Jordan’s one on one meeting with him after the attacker outsmarted defense man Ahmed Njoya. Steady at goal, he smartly grabbed the ball to save his side.
Unfortunately for Volcan, a defense blunder caused them a goal deep into added time from Doka Bechem Tabe who smartly scored the stunning lone goal to grab the third place title.
