The 2026 FIFA men’s World Cup has been conducted this Thursday’s in Abidjan-Cote D’Ivoire and Cameroon has been placed in group D alongside long time rivals, Cape Verde, Libya, Angola, Eswantini and Mauritius.
The Indomitable Lions have once again been paired against the Blue Sharks as it were in the last edition.
Africa’s 54 nations have been placed in nine groups of six teams each, with the continents big nine leading the groups.
Egypt, Senegal, Nigeria, Cameroon, Morocco, Cote D’Ivoire, Algeria, Tunisia and Mali are leaders of group A to I respectively.
The nine groups will play on home and away basis round and the winners of each group automatically qualifies for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The next four best after the winner from each group will then compete in a play-off stage to determine CAF’s representative at the FIFA play-off tournament which will include one team each from all six confederations of FIFA.
The qualification matches will kickoff from November 13-21, 2023, 3 to 11 June 2024, 17 to 25th March 2025, 1 to 9 September 2025, 6 to 14 October 2025 and 10 to 18 November 2025.
In all, there would be ten match days for this qualification round to pick up a ticket to the 23rd edition of the quadrennial International men’s football tournament.
