Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, current hasĀ announced he will be candidate for the 2023 Confederation of African Athletics(CAA) which he is currently occupying.
The 72-year-old former top ranking military official, made these declarations on Saturday, via the nation’s english flagship sports program broadcasted on Cameroon’s television.
He was the lone candidate in the race during the 2003 election, where he managed to amassed a score of 82.86% of the valid votes for that year.
The Election of the President of the Confederation of African Athletics, is slated to hold from April 26-27 , in Lusaka, Zambia.
Hamad Kalkaba Malboum has as rival his former Vice-President Ibrahim Shehu Gusau, President of the Nigerian Athletics Federation and of the West African Athletics Federation.
Speaking on national television, the visionary leader had the following;
“It is time for me to make use of the next four year mandate, to implement what l had planned to put in place by 2020 , before being stopped by the deadly COVID-19 pandemic”.
” I discovered that athletics is the most performant discipline practice by Africans.Whether at the Olympic Games or World Athletics Championship, Africans are always on top spot,” He Added.
Following the exit of Senegal’s Lamine Diack as IAAF President, Malboum became the most influential athletic administrator in Africa.
“I am coming with a new dynamism, which is placed under the theme ‘inspired’ this project entails providing the best facilities for our African athletes and children not to use the Mediterranean Sea to travel abroad for greener pastures again”.
“With this project of ours, we shall look at the failures of the past, as opportunities to do better as a team.”
“We shall partner with structures like the African Development Bank, in the provision of finances for the development of athletics on the African continent”.
” We also think of the detection of young talents and their preparation for a better life at their retirement. Adding to that, will be the creation of a National Athletic Center in all the countries. The putting in place of a Normal National Championship,train competent and good administrators for an efficient governance, ” Hamad Kalkaba Malboum concluded.
In the year 1970 to 1974, he was a member of Cameroon’s 4 Ć 100 metres relay team. And also competed in the 100 metres, 200 metres and long jump. He was highly influential in developing national sports federations in Cameroon. founded the country’s baseball and softball federations in 1992 and leading the handball and athletics bodies.
From 1976ā1983, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Sports Office and headed the International Military Sports Council (CISM) from 2010 to 2014.He also served from 1996 to the present as founder and organiser of the “Espoir” Race (ascension of Mont Cameroon). From 2001 to the present he has been head of the National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSC) and from 2003 to the present, head of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA).
