Nigeria players continue to impress over the weekend for their clubs.
From Russia, Spain, Belgium, and the United States of America (USA), Falcons impressed with goals for their teams.
BELGIUM
Roosa Ariyo (Club Brugge)
Nigeria forward Roosa Ariyo scored two goals for her Belgian Super League Women’s side, Club Brugge as the team secured a 4-0 win over RSC Anderlecht on Friday.
The host were reduced to ten players in the 26th minute giving Club Brugge a numerical advantage.
The numerical advantage started to yield fruit ten minutes later as Lynsey Van Belle opened the scoring to give the visitors a slim halftime lead.
It took Moroccan forward, Sakina Ouzraoui Diki’s 70th-minute goal to double Club Brugge’s lead.
Ariyo increased her side’s lead to three in the 73rd minute and sealed the win with another goal in the 79th minute.
The win ensured that Club Brugge occupy the third position on the Belgian Super League Women’s Winners stage table with 22 points behind Leuven (27 points) and Anderlecht (26 points).
Club Brugge will next face fifth-placed Genk on March 21, 2023.
The league Champions will represent Belgium at the 2023/2024 UEFA Women’s Champions League.
RUSSIA
Macleans Chinonyerem (Lokomotiv Moscow)
Nigeria international, Macleans Chinonyerem scored two goals as Lokomotiv Moscow earned a 3-0 win against Ryazan on Saturday in the Russian Supreme Division Women encounter.
The former Gornik Lezcna player opened her goal account for the season last weekend as her team defeated FK Yanisey 2-0 during the league opener.
Katrina Khorosheva scored the first goal of the match for the host in the 59th minute before last season’s top goal scorer in the Polish Ekstraliga scored two goals to give the former Russian Champions a comfortable win.
Macleans doubled her side’s lead in the 67th minute and increased its lead to three in the 84th minute.
The goal increased her tally for the season to three after two league games.
The Moscow side occupy the third position on the log despite an early perfect record.
Francesca Ordega’s CSKA Moscow top the log with six points and a superior goals difference of nine ahead of Zenit and Lokomotiv Moscow.
Up next for Lokomotiv Moscow is an away clash with Zvezda 2005 on March 25.
SWEDEN
Anam Imo, Faith Ikidi-Michael (Pitea)
Nigeria forward, Anam Imo was on target for Swedish side, Pitea as her team bowed out of the Svenska Cupen after a 4-1 loss to Hammarby in the semi-final.
Sara Fornes gave Hammarby the lead in the 15th minute.
Imo equalised for Pitea in the 58th minute taking the game into extra time where Pitea conceded three goals to kiss the final goodbye.
Danish defender, Simone Boye Sorensen restored Hammarby’s lead in the 95th minute.
Ten minutes later, Matilda Vinberg increased Hammarby’s lead before Madelen Janogy rounded up the scoring in the 115th minute.
The Nigerian duo of Imo and Faith Ikidi-Michael both played for the duration of the game for Pitea.
Hammarby will face BK Hacken in the final on May 18, at the Bravida Arena after the latter edged Kristiansad 2-1.
Rosengard won the Svenska Cupen last season with a 2-1 win over BK Hacken.
SPAIN
Rasheedat Ajibade (Atletico Madrid)
Nigeria forward, Rasheedat Ajibade opened the scoring for Spanish Liga F side, Atletico Madrid as her team upended Alhama 3-1 on Sunday during a league encounter.
The former Avaldnes forward was at the end of Irene Guerero’s long pass before putting the ball beyond Alhama’s goalkeeper inside the box.
She dedicated the goal to teammate, Ludmila who was stretched off after an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury during the last league game with Real Madrid.
Spanish defender, Carmen Menayo Montero doubled the lead for the capital club in the 48th minute after a goal-mouth scramble and also dedicated her goal to Ludmila in the same fashion as Ajibade by showing the Brazilian jersey while celebrating.
Carmen Fresneda reduced the deficit for the host from the penalty spot in the 57th minute.
Andrea Straskova restored Atletico Madrid’s lead with a header from Eve Navarro’s cross.
Ajibade saw 73 minutes of action before she was replaced by Hanah Lundkvist.
She has scored seven goals after 21 league games this season for her team.
Charity Adule was an unused substitute for Alhama.
Atletico Madrid occupy the fourth position on the log with 43 points after 22 games while Alhama seats at the bottom of the table with 14 points.
USA
Uchenna Kanu (Racing Louisville)
Nigeria forward, Uchenna Kanu scored her first-ever goal for the American side, Racing Louisville as her new team defeated the United States Women’s National Team U-23 side 3-1 to round up pre-season friendlies on Sunday.
The win gave Racing two wins in three matches at the Portland Thorns preseason tournament at Providence Park.
Finnish defender Elli Pikkujämsä, filling in as a defensive midfielder, put Racing ahead in the 14th minute with a well-timed run and back-post header.
The U-23s tied the game in the 24th minute against the run of play, but newly arrived forward Uchenna Kanu’s goal in the 35th minute proved to be the game-winner.
Brazilian midfielder Ary Borges headed in an insurance goal just before halftime, nodding in a 28-yard cross from Wang Shuang just before U.S. goalkeeper Neeku Purcell could get to the ball.
All three goal scorers rang up a score for Racing for the first time.
Kanu saw 46 minutes of action before she was replaced by Kirsten Davis.
The win marked the completion of a nine-week preseason, with Racing now turning its focus to the 2023 regular season and the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup.
Louisville opens the campaign on the road next Sunday, taking on Michelle Alozie’s Houston Dash.
