Juan Carlos Garrido has been confirmed as Wydad Athletic Club’s (WAC)s head coach, returning for a second stint in charge at the club.
Garrido, 53, replaces Mehdi Nefti who was sacked over the weekend after guiding the club to a 1-0 win against Petro Atletico in the CAF Champions League. The incoming coach has signed a contract to the end of the 2022/23 season.
Nefti spent two months at the helm of the club but failed to deliver. He only managed six wins, three defeats and two draws in 11 games as boss of the Red Castle.
The Spaniard previously managed the club in 2020 and has had stints with rivals Raja Casablanca and Al Ahly of Cairo.
Garrido who also managed Etoile Du Sahel, Ettifaq and Ismaily on the continent knows African football to his tips and is expected to inspire improvement in the Wydad camp.
The former Villarreal, Real Betis, El Puig and Al Ain manager with 30 years of working experience has what it takes to make Wydad tick again.
Wydad currently rank third in the the Moroccan top-flight championship but have a game in hand through which they can catch FAR Rabat who are two points better.
Winner of Continental titles with Al Ahly and Raja Casablanca in the past, Garrido is expected to inspire Wydad of Cameroon’s Didier Lamkel Ze to greatness.
