Carine Wiysenyuy Tatah has crossed the finish line of the 2023 Mount Cameroon race of Hope ahead of all athletes in the women’s category.
The prodigy of the Milano athletic academy in Ndu won it for the fifth time after returning to the Molyko Omnisport stadium after 5 hours 18 minutes.
Carine finished three minutes ahead of second-placed Kitang Midred who provided stiff competition for her all along.
“I pray to be like those who have won it on more occasions than I have. During the ascend there were some Kenya Athletes ahead of me but I knew I will be better than them during the return as we are faster in descending,” Tatah revealed after the race.
She later revealed preparations wasn’t all easy.
“A month into my preparations, I fell and suffered injuries, but God helped me to keep me fit for this race,” the native of Bui Division in the Northwest region of Cameroon added.
Kitan gave serious competition for Tatah but crossed the finish line ten minutes later than the latter.
Tatah becomes the third most successful female athlete in the history of the race behind legends Sera Liengu Etonge who retired after winning seven times and six-time winner Yvonne Ngwaya.
Tatah adds to her winners medal of 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2012. She can aso boast of a second and third place finish in the past.
