Sudanese football star Mohamed Abdelrahman Yousif Yagoub believes the efforts of African Football’s chieftains at thriving the game are commendable but believes there should be considerable drive to speed the growth of the game on the continent.
The Al Hilal SC forward who is fresh from the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria and played at last year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon is hoping to excel in the continental club tournament. The striker who’s nation was based in Garoua during last year’s AFCON returned to familiar territory to a warm reception this Thursday for the pre-match conference of their clash against Cotonsport.
Quizzed about the strides from those in charge of African football, the Ex-Al Mereikh finisher couldn’t hold back his words of appreciation.
“It’s a privilege to be selected to participate in as many competitions for club and country. The experience in such big matches clearly shows those in charge are doing a lot to take African football higher,” Mohamed stated.
The comments from the 29-year-old who has scored 19 goals in 34 appearances for his country comes barely a week after Mamelodi Sundowns’ Bongani Zungu made the same assessment of the game on the continent.
Mohamed has featured in six CAF Champions League games from the preliminaries of this season’s competition and scored twice as he manifests the knowledge gathered across the board.
The Sudanese is not treating his ride in the competition as just another event.
“The Champions League is very special for Al Hilal and myself. Tomorrow’s result can change our season,” the 1.7M forward concluded.
Cotonsport face Al Hilal SC for the sixth time in the CAF interclub competitions this Friday at 5PM at the Roumde Adjia stadium.
Mohamed will be one of the key men expected to inspire coach Florent Ibenge’s front line in the quest to get a third win against the Cotonites who also beat Hilal twice and played a draw in the past.
Cotonsport will be hoping to recover from their 1-3 defeat against Group B leaders Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend while Hilal will be building on their 1-0 win against record champions Al Ahly in match day two.
