Moroccan football continues to make its presence felt on the biggest stages of European football, and Ayoub Bouaddi is now carrying part of that story into the Golden Boy 2026 race.

The Moroccan midfielder has made the final 25 nominees for the prestigious award, joining some of Europe’s most exciting young talents. Among the names competing for the prize are Pau Cubarsí, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Endrick, Estêvão, Jorrel Hato, Lennart Karl, Franco Mastantuono and several other highly-rated youngsters.

Bouaddi is not the only African name on the list. Côte d’Ivoire’s Yan Diomande has also made the final selection, giving Africa two representatives among the 25 finalists.

For Morocco, Bouaddi’s nomination is particularly significant. The country has built an impressive football culture in recent years, producing a generation of players who are increasingly comfortable competing on the biggest European stages.

From Achraf Hakimi to the emergence of a new generation of Moroccan talents, the Atlas Lions have become a major force in world football. The progress of the national team has also been matched by the growing presence of Moroccan players at leading European clubs.

Africa has a proud history of producing outstanding young footballers. Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, Patson Daka, Achraf Hakimi and Pape Matar Sarr are among the players who have won the CAF Young Player of the Year award, while others such as Samuel Eto’o, Didier Drogba and Mohamed Salah have gone on to become global stars.

The Golden Boy award itself has been won by some of the biggest names in modern football, including Lionel Messi, Cesc Fàbregas, Sergio Agüero, Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham and Lamine Yamal.

Bouaddi and Diomande now have the opportunity to add a fresh African chapter to that history. Whether either youngster eventually lifts the trophy or not, reaching the final 25 is recognition of their growing influence among Europe’s brightest young talents.

For Moroccan football, Bouaddi’s nomination is another proud moment in a remarkable period of growth.
