The Senegalese Association of Sports Medicine (ASMS) has thrown its full support behind Senegal national team doctor Dr Abderahmane Fédiore, describing recent comments made by the President of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) as “defamatory” and demanding a public apology.

In a statement released on Monday, July 13, 2026, the ASMS said it received with “deep indignation” remarks directed at Dr Fédiore during a press conference held by the FSF president at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium.

The association moved swiftly to defend the long-serving physician, highlighting his academic qualifications, extensive experience and years of service to Senegalese football.

According to the ASMS, Dr Fédiore holds a Diploma of Specialized Studies (DES) in Sports Medicine and Biology from the Faculty of Medicine at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD).

The association also detailed his distinguished career with the Senegal national team, where he has served as Chief Doctor of the senior men’s national team since 2017. During that period, he has overseen the medical care of the Teranga Lions through numerous qualification campaigns and training camps, while also participating in five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments—Gabon, Egypt, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire and Morocco—and three FIFA World Cups in Russia, Qatar and the ongoing USA, Canada and Mexico edition.

Beyond the national team, ASMS noted that Dr Fédiore previously served as Head of the Physiotherapy Department at Fann Hospital and has worked as a team doctor across several sports, including football, swimming, handball and cycling.

Internationally, the statement said Dr Fédiore has been a CAF and FIFA Medical Officer for several years, coordinating medical operations for numerous international matches involving both national teams and clubs.

“In view of his career and unwavering commitment to Senegalese, African and world football, the ASMS considers these remarks to be unfounded and defamatory,” the statement read.

The association reaffirmed its “total confidence” in Dr Fédiore and called on the FSF president to issue a public apology. It also warned that it reserves the right to pursue all necessary legal avenues to defend the honour and dignity of its member.

The statement comes amid growing tensions within Senegalese football following the federation president’s press conference, with the controversy now drawing a strong response from the country’s sports medicine community.
