Just a few weeks ago, Aigle Royal du Moungo looked destined for an immediate return to the second division. Today, however, the club from Nkongsamba is beginning to dream of survival thanks to the arrival of experienced Cameroonian coach Anicet Mbarga Foe.
The former Elite One-winning manager has sparked a remarkable turnaround since replacing Patrice Fotso less than two months ago. Under Mbarga Foe, Aigle have collected crucial back-to-back away victories against Canon Yaounde and Victoria United, results that have lifted the club out of the relegation zone with six matches still left to play.
The recent resurgence has significantly changed the atmosphere around the club. Aigle now sit one point ahead of Fauve Azur Elite in 13th place and four points clear of bottom side AS Fortuna as the battle for survival intensifies in Cameroon’s top flight.
Mbarga Foe arrived in Nkongsamba with one of the most respected coaching résumés in Cameroonian football. The tactician previously guided Union Sportive de Douala, UMS de Loum and Eding Sport de la Lekie to league titles during different stages of his career. He has also coached clubs such as Astre de Douala and Bamboutos FC, while also serving as head coach of Cameroon’s U17 national team.
His experience appears to be making a rapid impact on a squad that had struggled for consistency throughout the season. Since gaining promotion to Elite One in 2024 alongside Panthere Sportive du Nde, Aigle have found life in the top division extremely difficult, spending most of the campaign battling near the bottom of the standings.
But Mbarga Foe has restored belief within the squad and among supporters. The victories over Canon and Victoria United have not only improved the team’s position on the table but have also demonstrated a renewed fighting spirit and tactical discipline.
With six matches remaining, the survival battle is far from over, but Aigle now have momentum at a crucial stage of the season. Should Mbarga Foe succeed in keeping the club in Elite One, it would rank among the most impressive rescue missions of his coaching career and a massive achievement for a club that looked lost only weeks ago.
