Cameroon’s sprint king Emmanuel Eseme has once again stamped his authority on the international athletics scene after producing a sensational performance at the European Champion Clubs Cup, clocking a season-best 10.01 seconds to win the men’s 100m final and set a new competition record.
Representing Portuguese giants Sporting CP, Eseme exploded out of the blocks and dominated the race from start to finish, breaking a meet record that had stood untouched since 1993. The previous mark of 10.12 seconds was held by former British sprint star Dwain Chambers.
The performance further confirms Eseme’s rise among the elite sprinters in world athletics. The Cameroonian has consistently been one of Africa’s fastest men over the last few seasons and continues to push the limits of his own national records and continental ambitions. His personal best of 9.96 seconds, achieved in Switzerland in 2023, remains the Cameroonian national record.
Eseme’s latest triumph comes after a remarkable period in his career. The 32-year-old has become one of the faces of African sprinting, winning medals at continental championships and regularly competing against some of the world’s best on the Diamond League circuit. He also represented Cameroon at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Running 10.01 at this stage of the season is a major statement ahead of the upcoming global athletics events. It places the Cameroonian among the fastest men in the world this year and underlines his consistency at the highest level.
For Cameroon, the achievement is another proud moment in athletics history. Eseme continues to carry the nation’s flag with distinction, inspiring a new generation of sprinters while proving that African athletes can dominate on Europe’s biggest stages.
Breaking a 33-year-old meet record in such emphatic fashion is no small feat. On a memorable evening in Europe, Emmanuel Eseme once again showed why he remains one of the continent’s premier sprint talents.
