There are goals, and there are goals. Che Clinton Ofon scored one of the latter on Friday afternoon at the fecafoot technical center in Odza.

The Kumba City midfielder found the net for the first time in his new colours as the Southwest side came from behind to beat Yafoot 2–1 in match day three of the MTN Elite Two but the three points were secondary to what the moment meant.

Ofon’s brother died months ago after falling from an electricity pole. Friday’s goal was for him.

Scoring my first goal for this club is special,” Ofon said. “I dedicate it to my brother. He supported my football journey in every way. This one is for him.”

Cyril Obase added a second to complete the comeback after Yafoot had taken an early lead, giving Kumba City a perfect nine points from three games, the only side in the division with a flawless record so far. The side is top of pool B .

It has been a quietly influential start for Ofon since joining the newly promoted club. He has made two starts and made his mark from the bench in their second match, winning the penalty that Enow Nkar converted to settle the points on matchday two in Kumba

The 2–1 win was also Kumba’s first away from home this season, a result that underlines the belief growing within the squad.

The confidence from the coaches(Mbaboh Moses) and the support from the fans have made the difference,” Ofon said. “From the first game to now, you can see the improvement in the team.”

This is the player’s second collaboration with Coach Mbaboh Moses after their time with Foncha Street, now Ngoketundjia United

The midfielder came through Best stars Academy in the Southwest region before representing Ngoketundjia United, formerly Foncha Street FC and Yong Sports Academy.

He was part of the Ngoketundjia side that reached the promotion play-offs last season but could not go through.

Now he is at a club with burning ambition. Kumba City are targeting Elite One football in their first season at this level.

We are working as a team,” he said. “The goal is promotion. If we stay focused and keep improving, we can achieve something special.”

Friday afternoon was about more than that, though. For Ofon, the goal was personal, a son of the Southwest, carrying his brother with him.
