2022 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship hosts Algeria will confront Côte D’ivoire for the first time in the 14 years history of competition in the quarter-final of the competition this Friday at the Nelson Mandela stadium in Baraki, Algeria.

The win took the West African’s points tally in the competition to six, which means they are second in Group B with four points.
The Desert Foxes in an unprecedented ride booked their place in last eight after a narrow 1-0 triumph against fellow quarter-finalist Mozambique on Saturday – becoming the first hosts to win all three group games in seven editions of the tournament reserved for home based footballers.
In fact, coach Madjid Boughera’s Algeria team is the only nation yet to concede in the tournament after three games of 1-0 wins each. They are being as resolute in defense as the ex-defender who won 70 caps and scored four goals for his country.
CôteD’Ivoire under Coach Soualiho Haidara progressed from a 0-1 defeat against Senegal to a draw against DR Congo before capping with the emphatic win against Uganda.
The clash between the Algeria and Côte D’Ivoire will be a meeting one of North Africa’s finest and the West Africans also keen on making a name for themselves.
Côte D’Ivoire finished third in 2016 in Rwanda while Algeria’s best shot was a fourth place finish from the 2011 edition of the tournament in Sudan. Both nations returning to the tournament after missing the 2018 and 2020 editions in Morocco and Cameroon respectively will be hoping to take advantage of their brilliant collection of players to achieve a little more.
Côte d’Ivoire will face hosts Algeria in the first quarter-final match-up on January 27 at 1600hrs GMT at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki, Algeria.
