- APEJES only won one of its 16 games in the regular season but improved to four upon the arrival of Minkreo Birwe for the playoffs but it wasn’t to beÂ
- Minkreo Birwe was appointed before the playoffs with the task to stir the club to survival but it didn’t happen for him
- APEJES will compete in the 20-club MTN Elite Two championship scheduled later this year
APEJES of Mfou have been relegated from the Cameroon top-flight championship for the first time since their ascension to the division during the 2013/14 season.
The 2-0 win against Fauve Azur Elite on Thursday in match day 11 of the 2023/24 MTN Elite One championship playoffs ended up being a mare formality as immediate rivals Astres and Bamboutos FC matched their result, thus amounting to their relegation.
APEJES only won four, played a draw in two and lost four, meaning they accumulated 14 points in the playoffs phase of the season which wasn’t enough to take them out of the relegation zone of the bottom five clubs.
Aigle Royal of Menoua also sealed a place in the five-team crew returning to MTN Elite 2 championship after their 1-1 draw against UMS in a fixture that didn’t finish because the Loum players walked off after their club conceded what they term a harsh penalty.
Aigle and APEJES will follow early birds Fovu, UMS of Loum and Avion Academy who status as Elite Two newbies has been concluded before the final round of matches.
APEJES’ departure from the top-flight can be blamed on the club that simply failed to find its regular swag this season.
They will compete in the 20-club MTN Elite Two championship for the 2024/25 but as the go APEJES will always be remembered for it’s rare policy of trusting very young like Noh Nafeng, producing top talents like 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner Frank Boya and above all conquering Bamboutos FC of Mbouda in the historic 2016 Cup of final courtesy a Boya brace.
