Reports coming from Nigeria have it that the national team might settle for two-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, Herve Renard as their next coach.

The Super Eagles have been without a substantive manager after the expiration of Jose Peseiro’s contract.

Peseiro took the three-time African champions to the final of AFCON 2023 where host, Cote D’Ivoire emerged as winners.

Renard had been in charge of the French senior women’s national team and guided them to the last FIFA Women’s World Cup.

He left his role as coach of Saudi Arabia to return home taking the job of French senior women’s national team.

With the Olympics taking place in France this year, Renard is expected to guide Le Bleues to the women’s football event.

He was also linked to the Ivorian job during the last AFCON after the sack of Jean Louis Gasset but Emerse Fae took the team to AFCON glory as talks were unsuccessful.

Renard has won the AFCON twice with Zambia and Cote D’Ivoire and is an experienced coach as far as African football is concerned.

He joined a long list of coaches jostling for the vacant role of Super Eagles.

A new coach will be named ahead of the next FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic during the next international break.
