The Cameroon of African Football (CAF) have announced the draw for the 2023 TOTALEnergies African Cup (AFCON) will be made Wednesday, February 1 in Algeria where the institution’s staff is currently out for the organisation of the 2022 CHAN for home based players.
AFCON Holders Cameroon who picked up a qualification ticket less than two weeks ago through the central Africa zonal tournament alongside Congo.
The 2023 edition of the event has been expanded from eight to 12 nations with the best four nations to qualify for the FIFA World Cup later this year in Peru as CAF representatives.
According to the release, the 12 participating member association for the event will be paired in three groups of four from which eight teams will advance to the quarter-final.
The cities of Annaba, Constantine, Algiers will host the competition which will run from April 29 to May 19 which are also hosts of the ongoing CHAN competition.
Hosts Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Senegal , Mali, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Cameroon, Congo and Zambia will be in the draw of the 17th edition of the tournament.
