Third tier Cameroonian club Edu Sport Academy of Yaounde, have eliminated Aigle Royal of Menoua in the first preliminary round of the 2023 Cup of Cameroon following a 4-3 victory on post-match penalties after both sides played goalless in regulation time on Sunday in Yaounde.
David Pagou’s Aigle were second best this Sunday at the CAF Excellence Center in Mbankomo as they fired blank across 90 minutes, before bowing out of the forgettable cup tie after post-match penalties.
Edu Sport entered the 32nd finals as one of the underdogs, given that they are of the fourth tier championship, but proved they didn’t come this far by chance.
Though most of the best chances of the game fell to the top-flight side the El Pacha failed to score due to a combination of good goalkeeping and proper defending from the amateur club from the center region.
The game finished goalless, but Edu went on to eliminate the 2008 finalist in post-match penalties to cause another early exit in the cup for Aigle Royal.
The result set up a 16th finals clash against Champions FC of Garoua who were wave buy in the 32nd final after their opponents UMS of Loum fail to show up in Bertoua for their game.
