World Deaf Football championship: Cameroon’s Preparations hits top gear

Cameroon’s preparation for the 4th edition of the World deaf football championship, slated for September 23 to October 7 in Malaysia have hit fever pitch.

The deaf national men’s team has hightened preparations for the tournament in a close camp in Cameroon’s political Yaoundé, precisely at Oasis Pittoresque.

President Jean Varlery Pemha has revealed the 22 players have moved far from the external camp which started in March 2023, to a closed camp to be fully focused and enhance achievement of perfection.

“The external internship which started in March 2023 ended yesterday, so the best 22 players were selected at the end of this external internship and who have been admitted to the internal internship since yesterday. Everyone is focussed and makes good preparation,” explains Jean Valery PEMHA, president of the Cameroon deaf football federation.

President Valery says, 24-year-old Cameroon international Djappide Serges, Who plays for Tunisian side, Voix des Sourds was the last to reach camp.

“Our squad is full since yesterday (Tuesday) after the arrival of Djappide Serges, the Cameroon international, who ply his trade in Tunisia,” president Varlery revealed.

Not only is the squad complete, but there is calm and serenity. Adequate funds have been put at the disposal of the team by Minister Narcisse Mouele Kombi as they gear for the global event.

“The Ministry of Sports and Physical Education has accompanied the preparation of the team and has also made available substantial funds for participation in the competition,” President Valery added.

Team Cameroon intensify preparations

The millions of FCFA put at the disposal of the federation has been able to aid them overcome the problem of infrastructure, absence of sporting gears, a situation that has been the reality in past years.

“With the provision of a budget allocated to this competition, we have been able to overcome the problem of infrastructure and training facilities as well as equipment for a better preparation of the Team,” Mr. Varlery concluded.

Cameroon, like the other 23 participants will be hoping to go as far as possible in the competition.

They face Greece, China, and Chile in group C.

The team will leave for Malaysia on September 19, 2023, via Turkish Airlines.
