Isle of Hope Sports Academy (ISOHSA) of Limbe sweeper, Kum Bryan says the 2023 season was historic and the players achieved more than what many expected of them in what turned out to be an unforgettable campaign.

ISOHSA crowned a ten match unbeaten run and became a rare Southwest Regional League side to go through the entire national interpools competition unbeaten after dispatching Bafmeng United FA 2-0 in the final of the two weeks competition last Sunday in Yaoundé.

Kum who missed the best part of the season due to injury and a failed move abroad returned home in time to complement Tebug Kingsley in the heart of the defense that only conceded a record three goals during the Interpools.

Reacting to questions from the kick442.com crew this Friday, the 22-year-old sweeper said there were less believers at the start.

“It was a great season for us and Southwest football. Few expected we could achieve this much, but we are happy with the final outcome,” the sweeper in his second season at the club said.

Kum further explained what made the difference between the players position and that of doubting thomases.

“The difference between those who had doubts and us is self belief. We trusted each other. I had four different defensive pairings during this competition, but on each occasion I had the same trust and confidence. That’s what I am talking about.”

Kum missed the first game of the competition which finished goalless against Abong Mbang, but made his Interpool debut besides Tebug in the second group game against Volcan of Noun and never looked back.

He went on to pair with Tambi Moki, Ashu Cerezo and Wilson Ngange Junior later in the tournament as the Southwest Regional League champions cruised to the submit of amateur football in their first time of asking.

Atanas as he is fondly known was crucial and is expected to form the core of ISOHSA’s shield at the back during the upcoming Elite 2 championship campaign expected to start in October.

The side created in 2015 scored most goals at the Interpools (13), had the best defense with just three goals conceded, plus produced the top scorer and best player en route to winning the competition and promotion to Elite 2 against all odds.
