The road to continental supremacy has been mapped out.
Following an enthralling group stage at the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, the tournament has entered its decisive phase, with the eight remaining nations now knowing exactly what stands between them and the coveted African crown.
Cameroon, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Algeria, Malawi and Ghana have all secured their places in the quarter-finals after navigating a fiercely contested group stage. Four blockbuster encounters now await as the race for the continental title reaches its defining moments.
For Cameroon, attention shifts to a familiar and formidable opponent. The Indomitable Lionesses will renew one of African women’s football’s greatest rivalries when they face nine-time champions Nigeria on Sunday, August 9, at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca. The winner will not only book a place in the semi-finals but also secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Hosts Morocco will launch the knockout phase against reigning champions South Africa in what promises to be one of the tournament’s standout fixtures. Côte d’Ivoire, who impressed throughout the group stage, will lock horns with an organised Algerian side, while tournament surprise package Malawi will look to continue their dream run against Ghana after stunning Nigeria during the group phase.

Saturday, August 8
- Côte d’Ivoire vs Algeria – 18:00 (Moulay Rachid Stadium, Casablanca)
- Morocco vs South Africa – 21:00 (Moulay El Hassan Stadium, Rabat)
Sunday, August 9
- Cameroon vs Nigeria – 18:00 (Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca)
- Malawi vs Ghana – 21:00 (Al Madina Stadium, Rabat)
The pathway to the final is equally compelling.
Should Cameroon overcome Nigeria, the Lionesses will face either hosts Morocco or defending champions South Africa in the semi-finals. On the other side of the draw, the winner between Côte d’Ivoire and Algeria will take on either Malawi or Ghana for the remaining place in the final.
The semi-finals will be played on Wednesday, August 12, before the third-place match takes place on Saturday, August 15 at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday, August 16, when the finalists meet at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat to crown the champions of Africa.
Beyond the battle for continental glory, the quarter-finals carry enormous significance on the road to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The four quarter-final winners will automatically qualify for the global showpiece, while the four defeated teams will enter a play-off phase, with two additional nations advancing to the intercontinental play-offs for another opportunity to reach the World Cup.
