Victoria United continued their resurgence in the MTN Elite One Championship with a convincing 3–1 victory over AS Fortuna at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium on Wednesday, February 25.
The Matchday Seven encounter saw OPOPO secure their third consecutive win after suffering three straight defeats earlier in the campaign — a remarkable turnaround that has reignited their season.
The game began on a balanced note, with both sides creating early chances. However, it was Victoria United who broke the deadlock in the 28th minute through Bill Alex Diboto, who finished calmly to give the hosts the advantage.
AS Fortuna responded positively and were rewarded just four minutes before halftime when Solomon Asah found the equaliser in the 41st minute, sending both teams into the break level at 1–1.
Fortuna’s hopes of mounting a comeback after the restart were short-lived. Gilfrank Sterly restored Victoria United’s lead in the 54th minute, putting the hosts back in control.
The victory was sealed in the 88th minute when Bryan Tchana Nana confidently converted from the penalty spot, confirming Victoria United’s dominance and extending their impressive home run.
With the win, OPOPO climb to fourth place on the table with 12 points from four wins and three defeats.
AS Fortuna, meanwhile, drop to the bottom of the standings with just five points collected from one victory, two draws, and four defeats.
Victoria United will look to maintain their winning momentum when they host in-form Gazelle FA of Garoua in Limbe on Sunday, March 1, 2026. Fortuna, desperate to move out of the relegation zone, will entertain Unisport of Bafang on the same day.
